Most falls do no serious physical harm. What does the damage is the hour spent on the floor waiting, the ambulance called because nobody could lift safely, and the confidence that quietly goes afterwards — the walk to the shops that stops, the bath that starts to feel risky.
That loss of nerve is what turns one fall into a smaller life, and it is far easier to prevent than to reverse. Getting someone up quickly, calmly and without a hospital trip is the whole point.
How we get someone up safely
We use a Raizer lifting chair — a battery-powered chair that assembles around someone lying on the floor and raises them gently to a near-standing position. One person can operate it, so there is no heaving, no improvising with kitchen chairs, and no risk of a second injury to the person or to whoever is helping.
Every Care Professional who uses it is trained on it. If anything suggests the fall caused real harm we call for medical help first — the chair is for getting someone up who is not injured, not for deciding whether they are.

Getting the confidence back
Being helped up is the start. What follows matters more: working out why it happened, and making the next one less likely. That might mean looking at the trip hazards on the route to the bathroom, checking whether medication is causing dizziness, adding a visit at the time of day the falls happen, or simply walking with someone until they trust their legs again.

Fall Recovery questions
It is for people we already look after. It relies on our team knowing the home, holding a key-safe code and being close enough to reach you quickly, so it is not something we can offer as a standalone call-out.
If there is any sign of injury, or the person is unwell, confused or in pain, call 999 first. Call us when someone has slipped or slid down and simply cannot get up. If we arrive and are not happy, we will call for medical help ourselves rather than move them.
No, and please do not try to lift someone yourselves either — that is how carers get hurt. The Raizer is operated by Care Professionals trained on it. If you are waiting for us, make the person warm and comfortable where they are.
The visit is charged at our normal hourly rate, with no call-out fee and no equipment charge for the chair. All our rates are published on the <a href='/cost-of-home-care'>costs and funding page</a>.
Not on its own. What reduces the next one is finding the cause — footwear, a rug, a medication making someone light-headed, weakness after an illness. We will raise what we notice and work with your GP where it helps.
